Missions Project: Cuba - Action Plan 2009/2010

|
1.
Introduction: The
Brethern in Christ are an Anabaptist group affiliated with Mennonite World
Conference. They have an active church membership of over 3000 in Cuba, and are
organized legally as the “Sociedad Misionera Cubana Hermanos en Cristo”. They
have over 140 congregations that
meet mostly in house churches. Only 5-6 of these groups actually have a small
church building. In most of these churches attendance is above membership numbers. In addition most
have satellite groups (cell groups) that they formed. They hope that these
satellite groups will eventually organize themselves into church groups and
start their own satellite groups - that is how they grow.
2. The
need: The need
seems to be never-ending as Cuba is - at this point in time - a very poor
nation with a restrictive government. Economic opportunities are very limited
if not totally absent. There is practically no opportunity to create income
apart from a low salary of $15/month save for the black market. Infrastructure
improvement is therefore an insurmountable challenge for the churches.
We have identified 5 projects for our church to
get involved. All are located in the Santa Amelia area within an hour’s drive
of Havana.
